MIKEY FREEDOM +
Mikey Freedom is an Australian artist whose multidisciplinary practice spans painting, muralism, sculpture, installation and placemaking, operating at the intersection of the studio, the street and the social spaces where culture is actively lived. Over the past two decades he has built a substantial body of work across both public and private spheres, contributing to hospitality, cultural and commercial environments through large-scale murals, sculptural works and site-specific commissions. His projects are driven by a belief that art should be embedded within everyday life, enriching the places where people gather, connect and create shared experiences.
Alongside his public practice, Freedom has maintained a prolific studio discipline, producing a significant catalogue of work distinguished by its scale, consistency and depth. Drawing from modernism, street culture, literature, music, architecture and the visual language of daily life, his paintings explore themes of memory, place and cultural identity through abstraction, typography, found imagery and gesture. Rejecting distinctions between high and popular culture, his work reflects a fascination with the ways people construct meaning through objects, spaces and rituals. Based on the South Coast of New South Wales, Freedom continues to balance public engagement with private inquiry, pursuing a practice grounded in the conviction that art should remain connected to life and accessible within the rhythms of everyday experience.
